Home was a beautiful green as I left for this year's trip to the mountains. Was a wet start to the summer then it turned HOT and HUMID like no other. Good time to escape to some nice cool mountains for a few days. This year's trip would be different than the others. Went solo on this one. I've done lots of solo overnight camping, and occasionally have done multi-day fishing trips solo, but no backpacking in remote areas. I had not intended to do this year solo, but was unable to find any willing or able hiking partners from the few backpacking-inclined folks I know. Still wanted very much to get a trip in and do a route that I had planned last year but didn't do.
The trip did not go as planned. I essentially bailed on the backpacking in the mountains and instead did a whole lot of driving and day hiking. It was an enjoyable trip, but at least in the current circumstances I am not cut out to be a solo backpacker. It was a humbling experience but I hope that I have learned a lot from it.
